Maria Sharapova has always been known for her grunts during her matches.
Whenever she hits the ball, she manages a 75 decibel “uhn!” that some opponents have found distracting.

Well, this time it was the audience who found it either distracting, or comical enough to imitate during Sharapova’s matches in the Fed Cup in Israel on Saturday.
With each stroke and grunt of Sharapova’s, the audience responded with their own version.

While most were expecting her to be rather annoyed with the jeers, Sharapova herself said she wasn’t at all bothered.

“I don’t mind it,” she told the Independent. “It brings out the best in me. I love the atmosphere, the crowd and their craziness. It is what we live for. I got really anxious and excited as I was close to finishing my first Fed Cup match.”

She responded to the crowd by beating her opponents handily, and even managed to throw some trash talk into the mix.

She told her opponent, Shahar Peer whom she beat one and one in front of Peer’s home crowd, “You should have learned the lesson from yesterday,” in which she is referring to Peer cheering on the crowd to root for her, which resulted in the imitations of Sharapova’s grunting.

Lesson: The more you mess with Maria, the more stupid she makes you look in front of your home crowd.
