Aretha Franklin sure knows how to get herself in the news lately, and now, PETA, or People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals has gone full-bore after the soul legend for wearing fur to the Grammy’s.
It all started with Beyoncé’s gaff at the Grammy’s by calling Tina Turner the “Queen of Soul,” (Oh, no she didn’t!).
Aretha didn’t take too kindly to the snub, and responded by stating that the title is hers, and hers only, to set the record straight.
“I am not sure of whose toes I may have stepped on or whose ego I may have bruised between the Grammy writers and Beyonce,” Franklin said in a statement issued by her publicist. “However, I dismissed it as a cheap shot for controversy.”
Then Beyoncé’s father, Matthew Knowles responded with a statement Thursday, “Something this ridiculous—it’s childish, it’s unprofessional, and it’s a sad day when egos get bruised because somebody used the word king, queen, prince or princess.”
Now that that has somewhat blown over, PETA have stepped in to kick the Queen while she’s somewhat down.
They issued a statement regarding Franklin’s wardrobe that evening, which consisted of a fur coat! (GASP!)
“Music lovers may think of you as a “queen”, but to animal lovers, you are a court jester. Why not shed the old-fashioned look that adds pounds to your frame and detracts from your beautiful voice? Please consider donating your furs to the homeless as “queen of compassion”, Mariah Carey did. You’ll get a tax credit for the donation and we at PETA will all sing your praises.”
Then what, PETA attacks the homeless for their fur coats, not to mention, style points!?
Now, I’m fully expecting Aretha to respond by attacking PETA headquarters as depicted in the image above, because if one things for sure, it’s that you don’t mess with the Queen of All Divas!
