If you eat at McDonald’s, you suck.

Why? It’s bad for the environment.

First, think of the trash eating at any fast-food place produces: bag, boxes, napkins, wrappers, cups, straws and crappy toys.

None of this is bio-degradable.

Want your fast-food joints to be clean? Typical cleaning supplies are bad for the environment. Want to see while eating? Typical lighting is bad for the environment. Want your food cooked? Typical grills are – you guessed it – bad for the environment.

What’s a newly minted greenie to do?

Well, there is always eating somewhere other than a fast-food restaurant, but that’s not going to happen. Fast food is far too convenient and yummy for that.

Turns out that some fast-food places are thinking green.

Grille Zone is a certified environmentally friendly fast-food restaurant that has no garbage cans, only recycling and composting. That’s good news for those in Boston but not so much for the rest of the country.

The Doc Green’s in Austin, Texas, is also certified environmentally friendly. Once again, good for Austin, but not so good for everywhere else.

Chipotle is a nationwide restaurant that works at being good for the environment and for you, too. It tries to use only natural ingredients.

Pizza Fusion has restaurants around the country. They deliver their food in hybrid cars, use only eco-friendly cleaners and use only 100 percent post-consumer paper – including the toilet paper. Their utensils are made from potatoes. Really. The restaurants are designed to be energy efficient.

Burger King has been doing its part. In July, Kids Meals bags will be 100 percent from recycled material. The cups will be 10 percent recycled materials.

If you do not have one of these fast-food places near you, you will have to deal with guilt like the rest of us. Take heart, dear reader – these places are worse for you than for the planet.
