Congratulations! Your father is the first black president of the United States. That’s very historic. You should be very proud.

As the “first daughters,” you will now be seen as role models. That’s not easy. Here’s some advice:

Distance yourself from Miley Cyrus. She’s not a good role model. Actually, she is going down exactly the wrong path. She has a problem with getting photographed without all her clothes on and those photos leaking on the Internet. She also allows herself to be photographed being racist. That’s not good.

The Jonas Brothers may be cute, but they are terrible musicians. Ask your mom to recommend some good groups to listen to. Distance yourself from the Jonas Brothers, too.

Don’t take advice from Jenna and Barbara Bush. They may have been first daughters, too, but they got into a lot of trouble. They were also older than you are. Ignore them. We did, for the most part.

Call Chelsea. Chelsea Clinton has been where you are and did very well. She is strangely well adjusted considering what she went through as first daughter. Listen to her.

Don’t drink, smoke or do drugs – ever. It may be cute to take a sip of wine with the president of France, but the media will jump all over it. It’s best to just say no, politely. Smoking is a sign of weak character. Yes, your dad may smoke, but there’s a reason why he avoids being photographed doing so – he doesn’t want to look weak.

Smoking kills, too. Get dad to stop.

I’m sure your mom has told you not to do drugs. She’s right.

Wear underwear all the time. Photographers are evil. You’ll make the connection some day.

Stick together. You two are going through this together. Only you two will truly understand what it is like.

Keep a diary or journal. Sell it to fund your college education.

Listen. You will have a lot of important people coming to your house. You will learn a lot from them. Keep your ears open.

Take up a hobby like photography. You’ll appreciate it when you are older.

Finally, remember you will get your father back. He’ll be gray and tired, but he can only be president for eight years at the most.
